Frequently Asked Questions

Can you refinish my existing furniture?

Yes! I have worked with many people to bring their vision to life. Whether it’s the skills or lack of time, I’m happy to take a look at your existing furniture and see if we can work some magic together. I’m completely transparent about my skill set so there are a few projects I won’t take on (Eg. Lead paint and heirloom pieces).

Can I prepare the item to save on cost?

Preparing an item for refinishing is the most important step to achieving excellent results on your finished product and ensuring a long life. For this reason, I complete all prep work myself. I do recommend that you wipe the item over with a lightly damp cloth and/or vacuuming away spider webs, dust etc prior to my starting work. Please get in touch before using any cleaning products!

How long will my project take?

Refinishing furniture takes more time than most people realise but thisis the proverbial ‘piece of string’ question. Time to completion depends on anumber of factors including condition, size and your design. As at April 2024, turn around time for small pieces (Eg. Bedside tables) is one week, with larger pieces (Eg. Dressers and sideboards) being 2 -3 weeks.

How much does it cost?

I charge an hourly rate plus materials. If your item requires extensive repairs or has complicated design elements this will increase the cost (and time to completion). To provide an accurate cost estimate I need some details about your furniture (Eg. Construction type, size, cosmetic and structural repairs needed) and what your preferred design choice is. You can email these and pictures of your items to hello@soberlanestudio.com.

Can you prepare my furniture so I can do the fun part of bringing my vision to life?

Yes, I can! Tools and basic prep products can be costly to purchase for a single or small project, not to mention just how important this step is in achieving great, long lasting results. I offer a ‘prepping service’ meaning you receive your item back as a blank canvas ready for paint or final finishes. The prepping service includes: consultation, thorough clean, cosmetic/structural repairs, sanding and priming (if you’ve chosen to paint).

I have a half finished project, can you complete it for me?

More than likely I can help bring your vision to life. Please email hello@soberlanestudio.com with full details of the item, your process date and what you are trying to achieve.

Do you collect and deliver projects?

Yes, I can collect and deliver smaller items, generally for free in the Lismore/Goonellabah area. Areas outside of city limits, or neighbouring towns incur a small travel fee. For larger items, please get in touch by emailing hello@soberlanestudio.com.

Can we chat in person?

If you’d prefer to chat in person where I can inspect the item and discuss your ideas this is charged at an hourly rate (including travel) which is deducted from the final refinishing cost if you decide to go ahead.

How do I know I'm getting a quality finish?

Great question! Having completed almost 300 projects at the time of writing, I've refined many of my refinishing skills and processes to ensure a long-life for your refinished furniture. I use quality, reputable products and more often than not, if I'm trialling a new technique or product, that furniture is used in my own home to test it's durability.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. I'm confident that I produce quality work and offer a 3 month guarantee on workmanship (excludes general wear and tear and misuse). If you have any troubles or questions about your refinished furniture please email hello@soberlanestudio.com.
